The Detacher

Selective · Sensible · Remote

The side of us that remains separate from the intensity of life, and can be observant as well as objective.

The gift

Objective, level-headed

The shadow

Aloof, cut off

The fear beneath it

Being entangled — losing themselves in the intensity of connection.

In your life

Detachers tend to be knowledgeable, independent and self-reliant — more comfortable with the tranquillity of intellectual pursuits than the intensity of emotional involvements. In shadow, the same quality can read as cool, aloof and distant.

At work · APRO Dynamics

Detachers are objective, observant, and bring good perspective to any team. Their dispassionate level-headedness can make them useful leaders in uncertain or unstable times. However, a fear of being entangled in connections can have them be absent-minded, distant and cut off — occurring as stuck in their head, a slightly aloof know-it-all.

The three registers

How the Detacher shifts

A neutral baseline; the strength it becomes when the gift is honoured; the weakness it falls into when the fear beneath it takes over.

Selective

The everyday flavour this type gives a personality.

Strength — at its best
Sensible

What this type provides when the gift is used consciously.

Weakness — in shadow
Remote

What takes over when the hidden fear is running the show.

The other faces of the Magician

Our capacity to step back, gain perspective and, from a distance, see the bigger picture. It lets us see the risks and challenges that may lie ahead, and develop strategies for meeting them. Rooted in the archetypal energy of the Magician.
