Three trainings. One pathway.

The method is taught in three stages: the Basic Shadow Types Training, the Advanced Shadow Types Training, and — for those who carry the model into teams and organisations — the APRO Dynamics Consultant Training. Practitioner certification runs alongside, through the members’ portal.

The pathway

Basic, then Advanced, then APRO — in that order.

Stage 1
BST
Five to six weeks · five live sessions

The Basic Shadow Types Training

An online course that grounds you in the twelve Shadow Types. Several hours of video presentations are paced alongside five live discussion sessions over five to six weeks, with session times arranged around participants' time zones. You come to understand the drivers behind the four energies and how they combine into the twelve types — the shift from seeing in fours to seeing in twelves — and you learn to administer the Basic Shadow Types Survey and explain its results, a good way in for coaching clients. Participants receive the Basic Shadow Types Manual, which covers each of the twelve types.

Prerequisite: a completed shadow-work process — a weekend or a coaching session, or an equivalent recognised training. The Basic training stands alone, and is the prerequisite for the Advanced training.

  • ·A grounding in all twelve Shadow Types
  • ·Administer and debrief the Basic Shadow Types Survey
  • ·The drivers behind the four energies, combined into twelve
  • ·Basic Shadow Types Manual included
Stage 2
AST
About eight weeks · eight live sessions

The Advanced Shadow Types Training

A live webinar series that moves from the types themselves to the dynamics between them. Several hours of video presentations run alongside eight live discussion sessions over about eight weeks. You are grounded in the six loops and in the relationships between the twelve types — opposing types and the twelve transitions — and you learn to choose the process pathway suited to a particular person or issue. The training also teaches you to interpret the Advanced Survey, so you can help people understand the origins of their core wounding and shift their deeper patterns. Participants receive the Advanced Shadow Types, Loops & Pathways Manual.

Prerequisite: the Basic Shadow Types Training. The Advanced training is in turn the prerequisite for practitioner certification and for the consultant training.

  • ·A grounding in the six loops
  • ·Opposing types and the twelve transitions
  • ·Choosing the right process pathway for a person or issue
  • ·Advanced Shadow Types, Loops & Pathways Manual included
Stage 3
APRO
About ten weeks · eight live case sessions

The APRO Dynamics Consultant Training

A live online series for practitioners who take the model into teams and organisations. In organisational work the four energies are named for what they provide — Awareness, Positivity, Results and Openness — and the training teaches you to read an APRO profile at three levels: the individual leader, the whole team and the whole organisation. Across eight case-based sessions over about ten weeks you learn to administer and debrief the APRO Dynamics Survey with teams, to explain the root causes of behavioural preference, and to identify the transformation pathway for a given dilemma — which is often not the obvious one. The training closes with supervised practice on a real engagement, and participants receive the APRO Dynamics Consultant's Manual.

Prerequisite: the Advanced Shadow Types Training. Completing the consultant training is the route to listing on the register as an Institute-certified consultant.

  • ·Reading APRO profiles: leader, team and organisation
  • ·Administering the APRO Dynamics Survey with teams
  • ·Finding the transformation pathway for a dilemma
  • ·Supervised practice on a real engagement
  • ·APRO Dynamics Consultant's Manual included
Certification

Training and certification sit side by side.

These trainings teach the method; certification recognises your practice of it. Once you have completed the Advanced training you can open a candidacy in the members’ portal, where supervised sessions, evidence and sign-off are tracked in one place. Consultants follow the same route after the APRO Dynamics training.

Considering training?

The work asks that you have done the work.

The Basic training expects a completed shadow-work process of your own — a weekend, a coaching session, or an equivalent recognised training. Sitting in the work as a participant is the best way to know whether you want to learn to hold it.
