Twelve types. Four energies. One hidden gift each.
Early in life, each of us put a part of ourselves in shadow — and built a personality around its opposite. The twelve Shadow Types map those patterns around four archetypal energies — the Magician, Sovereign, Warrior and Lover. Each type carries a gift when honoured, and a fear that runs the show when it stays hidden.
The Shadow Types Circumplex
Twelve tendencies around four archetypal energies — the Magician, Sovereign, Warrior and Lover. Switch registers to watch each type move from its neutral trait to its gift, and its shadow.

Perspective — the bigger picture
Our capacity to step back, gain perspective and, from a distance, see the bigger picture. It lets us see the risks and challenges that may lie ahead, and develop strategies for meeting them. Rooted in the archetypal energy of the Magician.
As a leader: Aware → Insightful → Nervous
The side of us that remains separate from the intensity of life, and can be observant as well as objective.
The side of us that weighs the options and can appreciate different perspectives — the mediator who brings harmony.
The side of us that questions almost everything and stays watchful for potential problems.
Vision — belief in a new future
Our capacity to look for and believe in a new, inspiring future — with the willingness to lead towards it, or to get behind the leadership of another in pursuit of that vision. Rooted in the archetypal energy of the Sovereign.
As a leader: Positive → Visionary → Grandiose
The side of us that thinks big, and is always arriving with a new, bigger, better vision of how things could be.
The side of us that appears confident, charismatic and accomplished — the motivator who takes the lead.
The side of us drawn to supporting and caring for others — a radar for spotting needs, and a reflex to help.
Action — boundaries and power
Our capacity to take action, set boundaries and assert our power in the world. The drive to be persistently in action, delivering on goals and accountabilities, and earning the respect of our peers. Rooted in the archetypal energy of the Warrior.
As a leader: Results → Performance → Dominating
The side of us that is courageous, grounded and comfortable with power — in its element with anger and conflict.
The side of us that cares deeply about what is right, and will stand up for what is just and fair.
The side of us that strives to establish its own distinct identity — original and creative, unique and unrepeatable.
Feeling — play and connection
Our capacity to share our vulnerability, to feel and express our emotions, to be playful, creative and spontaneous — fully in the flow of life. The desire to make connections and receive the reward of deeper relatedness. Rooted in the archetypal energy of the Lover.
As a leader: Open → Relational → Irrational
The side of us that expresses thoughts, feelings and impulses spontaneously, without inhibition.
The side of us that needs and depends on others — the classic 'people person' who lives for belonging.
The side of us that endures the hard things in life instead of resisting them — solidarity before self-advancement.
Every type has three registers: a neutral Trait, the Strength it becomes at its best, and the Weakness it falls into when the fear beneath it takes over. The type is not the problem — the hiding is.
